A big update is coming to the world of karting safety. The FIA 8877-2022 Karting Standard has officially been introduced — setting a new benchmark for driver protection and performance.
This new standard represents a major leap forward in karting safety gear, introducing enhanced design and performance requirements for helmets, racewear, and (for the first time ever) karting gloves and shoes.

What Is FIA 8877-2022 Karting?
Developed by the FIA after years of analysing karting incidents and injury data, this standard was designed to raise the bar for protection on and off the track.
The FIA has created new technical and design benchmarks to improve impact resistance, material quality, and overall driver safety.
The goal? To make sure that every piece of protective gear performs to the same high standard, no matter where or how you race.
What’s Changing from 2025
As of January 1st, 2025, all drivers competing in FIA championships, cups, and trophies — as well as any event listed on the international karting calendar — will need to wear gear that meets the FIA 8877-2022 Karting Standard.
That includes:
✅ FIA-homologated Helmet
✅ FIA-homologated Overall
✅ FIA-homologated Rib Protector
✅ FIA-homologated Gloves
✅ FIA-homologated Shoes
This means that non-homologated gloves or shoes will no longer be accepted in FIA-regulated karting events.
